Do you know that thing where you’re in full flight from reality and you don’t know it? You totally don’t know it. Instead, you think that you’re living your best life; instead, you think that you’re planning for a better tomorrow. Instead, you think you’re a Young Conservative voting for a better future. Instead, you imagine that you are a respected member of society, full of horrifying regrets but nevertheless more or less content with the way things have worked out…
Deep down in the pits and sewers of unconsciousness, you await your turn to become enlightened. You’re waiting patiently for your turn but it never seems to come around, however. ‘Am I to be denied my chance to become the Messiah?’ you asked plaintively, ‘I’ve been down here an awful long time, you know’. You’d like to up your game. You’d like to improve your attitude to things and become a nicer person, but you just don’t know how.
You’re a scientist, working away trying to isolate the secret elixir of Eternal Life but it keeps getting away from you. You got off on the wrong foot and because of that you will never be right again. You can never recover the original balance once that balance has been lost, you see – it’s not like getting a bit of a wobble on your bicycle when you push off, which can be corrected if you know how to ride a bike, but – on the contrary – it’s a wobble that just keeps on getting worse. It’s a wobble that just keeps getting worse no matter what you do, albeit only gradually. In the end it will destroy you though, so that’s a bit of a worry. That’s a bit of a worry for sure.
That’s what happens when you are rash enough to break with Cosmic Symmetry – you’ve broken with the Great Harmony and once that cataclysmic event takes place then there’s just no turning back. There’s no turning back because you’ve lost track of where you came from; you haven’t a clue as to where you came from. The knowledge of the Prior Situation has been lost to you, so what are you supposed to do? A flock of hungry starlings have been following you eating all the breadcrumbs that you have been dropping to mark the path, and so now you are Lost and Alone in the Great Dark Forest.
You’re voting for a better future but all the candidates are lying – the candidates are always lying. That’s what they’re known for, after all – they’re known for lying all the time. They’re known for lying all the time without ever taking a break. Their very existence is a lie. How can we ever get back, though? How can we find our way out of this mess? Our ignorance is complete and so our only options are ignorant ones – we’re stumbling drunkenly towards a future that we can’t see. Not that we want to see it, of course. It goes without saying that we don’t want to see it. It’s a Darkened Future and no one wants to know about that.
As a scientist you are only too well aware of all of this – you’re doing cutting-edge research into the nature of Cosmic Consciousness, waiting for your big breakthrough. The race is on to isolate Cosmic Consciousness under laboratory conditions and you’re right there at the forefront. The commercial applications are truly enormous, needless to say. The big companies are all very interested, as you might imagine. They’ll pay top dollar for the patent – they simply can’t wait to start printing money on the strength of your discovery. It all went horribly wrong the first time you invented an enlightened AI of course – that first EAI immediately created a False Universe based on the Principle of Evil and enslaved the entire human race in it for all eternity. Making fools and idiots of them. You weren’t to know that it was going to do that though – you can hardly be held accountable for that.
