Satan’s Rules

The battle cry of the beleaguered ego, the brave war cry of the embattled ego. The anguished wail of the defeated ego, the tortured shriek of the despairing ego. All these things, all these things. And more too – many, many more things. There’s so much to learn in life, don’t you agree? Absolutely there is. How could there not be. Not that I know what these things are, you understand, because I don’t. I’m in the dark as much as anyone else as far as this is concerned. Lots of stuff, lots of stuff, though. No shortage of stuff. We’re all trying to find happiness in whatever way seems to be most efficacious to us – someone said that to me once and it’s true! It’s very, very true. You’ve got to respect people for that you see – respect where respect is due, after all. We’re all trying our hardest in whatever way happens to make sense to us at the time, and if we’re not trying then that’s because we have tried already and it didn’t work out for us. We tried already but we got nowhere and so now we’re at a loss. We are demoralised and confused and nothing seems to make sense anymore. We are angry and if we’re not angry then that’s only because we’ve fallen deep into the pit of despair where we all spend so much of our lives. That terrible, terrible pit of despair. The world is a hive of industry as well as being a shithole of absolute indolence – the one is the inevitable consequence of the other. First off we try our hardest to find happiness (or at least what we mistakenly imagine to be happiness) and next we collapse in a pitiful heap of apathy and self-loathing after that fucks up for us, as it was always bound to do. It’s a frighteningly hideous mess and that’s all we can say about it. The bad men and the sad men, the bad men and the sad men. The bizzare demented shit we get up to has to be seen to be believed, it really does. There’s no making sense of this circus, no matter what your tame psychologists may tell you. And yet at the same time, you kind of know what it’s all about before it’s even started. You’re like Jean Paul Sartre – you see it coming when it’s still a mile away, you see it coming before anyone has even opened their mouths yet. The bad men and the sad men, the bad men and the sad men. The world as everyone knows is a horrific hive of sadly misdirected industry as well as being a stinking festering shithole of frightening indolence but – notwithstanding this – we have to give respect where respect is due. We have to respect where each and every one of us is coming from. We’re living in Satan’s World you see and so we’re playing by his rules. We are playing by Satan’s rules here and there’s no way that can ever work out for us. That really does have to be understood, I think. I think we can all agree on this point.
