The Decoy Level

I understood then that what I had previously understood to be going on wasn’t what was going on at all – that was just the cover story. Everything is just the cover story. Everything we know is just the cover story. The woman in the Vodaphone shop was busy explaining something to me, she was telling me first about the thing and then about the other thing and how the first thing needed to be changed or something because of some other thing that I couldn’t quite follow. Then there were some other things too, things that followed on from the first things, but weren’t quite the same. The woman in the Vodaphone shop was talking about all the things and that was what was going on for me just at that point in time. Her telling me about the things and me trying to understand about them. Other things had been going on just previous to this, other things that had gone out of my mind for the time being. But even though all of this was going on it wasn’t really going on as I could now understand very clearly. It was still all happening on one level of course but the level that it was happening on was only a kind of decoy level, a level whose function was to keep you thinking that there was a load of stuff going on that was totally real and that was also totally the only type of stuff that either was or ever could be going on. The regular type of stuff, I mean. The decoy level made you think it was going on when it wasn’t really going on and that was why it was a decoy. And the weird totally crazy totally freaky thing about this was that the story which seemed to be going on and which seemed to be so straightforward and normal and the only type of thing that we would actually expect to ever be going on wasn’t happening wasn’t happening wasn’t happening wasn’t happening and could even ever possibly happen because it didn’t even make the slightest bit of sense as a thing that could happen but only seemed to make sense and seem to be possible if not more than just ‘possible’ because we are feeding it with our attention to make it seem this way. So in other words it is all (the decoy level I mean) a type of hypnotic state that you get stuck in and when you are stuck in it stuff that is in reality completely and bizarrely phantasmagorical and just pure stupid and nonsensical in the extreme seems very normal to you so very normal that you never think about it at all you never give it a second thought. It seems normal and regular and everything like that and you never question it and you don’t even have the capacity to question it you wouldn’t know how because you don’t have the functional capacity to ask meaningful questions anymore only questions that are in keeping with the phantasmagorical decoy level that now makes perfect sense to you because you are feeding that decoy level with your fixated attention. You are feeding that hallucinatory reality with your trapped attention and keeping it going and keeping it going and keeping it looking normal for you but really there’s no such thing there’s no such thing there’s no such thing there’s no such thing there’s no such thing that’s only an hallucination that’s only an hallucination that’s only an hallucination that’s only an hallucination have a nice life have a nice life have a nice life have a nice life now for yourself have a nice hallucination says the decoy level and the whole time we’re feeding the hallucination feeding the hallucination feeding the hallucination with our passively fixed awareness that is like the rabbit staring at the headlights as the car gets closer and closer. The decoy level is the car and we are the rabbit and it is eating us up and eating us up and swallowing us whole so there’s nothing left. I understood all of this with total unwavering clarity. I understood that what seemed to be happening wasn’t what was happening at all. What was really happening was the other thing, the thing we never know about…
